RESULTS
ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Bethel Royals are in 1st place with 81.5 team points after day 1 of the MIAC Indoor Championships. They hold a narrow 2 point lead on St. John's.
The Royals won three events and added three more podium finishes on Saturday.
Landen Liu won the 60m dash in a conference record time of 6.76 seconds, which bettered Emmanuel Egbujor's previous record of 6.81. Bethel also earned points from
Godsword Simon's 5
th place finish (7.08), and
Cameron McConnell's 7
th place finish (7.11).
Jacob Parent and
Joel Smith went 1-2 in the 400m dash. Parent led from wire-to-wire to win in a time of 49.17, while Smith timed his kick perfectly to run 49.33, just 0.06 head of 3
rd place.
Grant Nelson took 6
th place with a time of 50.12.
Jayson Ekiyor won the 60m hurdles in a time of 8.08 seconds. His preliminary time of 8.06 seconds set the program record and stands as the 3
rd best mark in Division III.
Josh Sampson took 3
rd place in a time of 8.22, and
David Myres was 5
th with a time of 8.50.
Abe Schlegel finished in 3
rd place for the Royals in the heptathlon. Schlegel scored a personal best 4,280 points in the event, which gave Bethel 6 team points.
Micah Smith added 3 more team points, as he finished 6
th overall with a score of 4,039 points.
Bethel earned several more points from the field event crew.
Alec Braun tied for 5
th place in the high jump with a clearance of 1.86m / 6'1.25".
Simon Swenson added a point in 8
th place with a clearance of 1.81m / 5'11.25". Swenson added 2 points in the long jump with a leap of 6.35m / 20'10".
Grant Nelson was 6
th in the long jump with a jump of 6.35m / 20'10" as well. Freshman
Adam Hokanson added a point in the weight throw as he tossed a personal best 14.46m / 47'5.25".
At the end of the day, the men's distance medley relay team of
Grant Graber,
Tony Haack,
Tad Stewart, and
Luke Peterson took 5
th place with a time of 10:43.27.
