Men's Track Wins Gene Glader Invite

RESULTS: Eagle Open (UWL) | Snowshoe Open (U of M) | Gene Glader Classic (BU)

The Bethel Royals won the team title at the Gene Glader Invite and set two school records at meets on Friday as the Royals split their squad this weekend.

Eagle Open
Freshman standout Landon Liu continued his undefeated season with two event wins at UW-LaCrosse. Liu re-set the program record in the 60m dash for the 3rd time this year, taking the victory in 6.77 seconds. Liu also won the 200m in a time of 21.92.
Jacob Parent dominated a national class field in the 400m on Friday night. Parent ran the fastest flat-track 400m in program history with his time of 48.30, a time that currently ranks him 2nd in Division III. Joel Smith ran a season best 49.33 to take 3rd place, Grant Nelson took 4th in 50.11, and Josh Sampson was 8th in 50.42.

Snowshoe Open
Jayson Ekiyor stands alone as the fastest 60m hurdler in program history. Two weeks ago, Ekiyor tied Taylor Ferda's record of 8.11. This week, Ekiyor took 2nd place at the University of Minnesota with his time of 8.09 seconds. That time currently ranks 3rd in Division III this season. David Myres was 4th overall with a terrific time of 8.35 seconds, just 0.01 off his personal best. Freshman Simon Swenson was 6th in the long jump with his leap of 6.27m / 20'7".

Gene Glader Classic
The Royals won 6 events and won the team competition with 189 points at their annual home meet, the Gene Glader Classic. Alec Braun ran an indoor personal best in the 200m of 23.16 to win the race. Trokon Karngar ran a lifetime best of 53.38 to win the 400m dash. Bethel got victories in the middle distance races of Clark Nelson's 1:26.12 in the 600m, Tad Stewart's 2:46.17 in the 1000m, and Luke Peterson's 4:32.93 in the mile. Sam Gardeen won the pole vault with a personal best clearance of 4.47m / 14'8".

Bethel also earned several top-3 finishes. Cameron McConnell was 3rd in the 60m with a time of 7.11, just 0.01 off his personal best. Tony Haack took 2nd place in the 400m (53.47), and 3rd in the 200m (23.50). Austin Otier was 2nd in the 800m with a personal best time of 2:04.82. Gabe Kuecker was 2nd place in both the 1000m (2:47.78) and mile (4:38.87). Reese Thompson was the top collegiate finisher and 2nd overall in the 3000m run. Thompson ran a personal best of 8:52.23, while Grant Graber was 3rd in a personal best 8:59.21.

In the field events, Evan Larson was the top collegiate finisher and 2nd overall in the weight throw. Larson had a personal best throw of 15.66m / 51'4.5", which stands as the 5th best throw in program history. Larson was also 3rd in the shot put with a throw of 14.08m /46'2.5". Simon Swenson took 2nd place in his first triple jump competition, with a jump of 12.46m / 40'10.5".

The Royals enter their champion season next week as Bethel competes in the MIAC Indoor Championships. Macalester College will host Friday, February 24th and Saturday, February 25th. The MIAC Heptathlon will start competition on Thursday, February 23rd.
