Pipers Hot Shooting Bests Royals, 76-65

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The Bethel University women's basketball team dropped a 76-65 decision Wednesday evening to Hamline inside the Robertson Center.
 
Strong second half shooting behind the arc for Hamline, where six of its seven three came, finished them 33.3 percent behind the arc while Bethel was 20.8 percent. From the floor BU was 40.7 percent while the Pipers were 46.7.
 
Hamline out rebounded the Royals by a 38-34 margin while BU held the edge on offensive rebounds 13-12.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half
• Macy Littlefield knocked down the game's first three sparking an 11-3 run for BU that put them ahead 15-8 with 2:41 to go in the opening quarter.
• Hamline closed the quarter on a 7-2 run of its own shrinking the Royals advantage to 17-15 after going 7-of-9 from the floor in the first 10 minutes.
• Bethel was held to just one field goal through the first seven minutes of the second as Hamline built a 30-19 lead with a 15-2 run.
• A three-ball from Rosalie Penke ended the drought before Elly Schmitz scored BU's next five sending them into the locker room trailing 38-27.
 
Second Half
• The Pipers picked up steam from behind the arc in the second half including three straight treys to put the Royals down 56-38 with 1:54 to go in the third.
• BU had shooting troubles in the third – going 4-of-15 – but got to the charity stripe where they were 7-of-10 pulling within 61-42 after three.
• Hamline added three more from behind the arc in the fourth while Bethel hit a pair.
• Bethel shot 52.9 percent in the fourth quarter and got no closer than nine.
 
KEY PERFORMERS
Elly Schmitz led the Royals with 17 points, on 7-of-14 shooting, seven rebounds and four blocks.  
 Rosalie Penke and Macey Littlefield each added 12 points respectively.
 
UP NEXT
The Royals look to bounce back on Saturday, Dec. 2 hosting Concordia at 1 p.m.
