ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – With three players in double figures the Bethel University women's basketball team rolled its way to a 63-42 MIAC opening win over Augsburg Tuesday evening inside the Robertson Center.
Bethel (1-1, 1-0 MIAC) shot 42.6 percent from the field compared to the Auggies 22.4 percent. The Royals forced Augsburg (1-2, 0-1 MIAC) into 26 turnovers while turning that into 24 points on the other end.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half
• Six straight points from
Anna Garfield that included a three-point play opened the Royals on a 13-4 run through the first six minutes of the first.
• But held to just one field goal through the final four minutes, BU took a 15-9 lead into the second quarter.
• The Auggies held BU to a pair of free throws over a five-minute stretch until
Alli Born knocked down her second trey of the night making it 25-18 with 2:51 to go.
• Born would hit two more threes as part of an 11-2 run over the final 2:26 sending the Royals into the locker room up 33-20.
• For the half BU shot 37.5 percent from the field while holding the Auggies to 27.3 percent. The Royals also forced 14 turnovers while committing nine of their own.
Second Half
• Bethel ramped up the defense in the second half holding the Auggies to just two field goals in the third quarter. Meanwhile BU's offense shot 44.4 percent (8-of-18). The Auggies lone layup came at the 6:02 mark.
• The Royals closed out the third on an 11-3 run, with all Auggie points coming at the charity stripe, to lead 51-27 heading into the fourth.
• The Royals offense continued to click in the fourth quarter shooting 54.5 percent (6-of-11).
• Off the bench,
Jaelin Boyd's layup with 2:47 left made it 59-36 matching BU's largest lead of the night.
KEY PERFORMERS

Anna Garfield led the team with 16 points for the second straight game while adding seven boards and three steals.
•
Alli Born used four three-pointers to register 13 points and seven rebounds.
•
Macey Littlefield off the bench added 10 points, six of which came in the second half.
