Balanced Attack Earns Royals Home Victory over St. Scholastica

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – With eight different players finding the scoring column, the Bethel University women's basketball team picked up a 64-45 victory over St. Scholastica inside the Robertson Center.
 
Bethel had its second-best shooting night of the year at 45.5 percent. The turned the Saints' 31 turnovers into 22 points on the other end and dominated the inside game 42-12. Bethel's defense held CSS to a 34.1 percent and collected six blocks.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half
• The Royals opened the game on a 9-0 run keeping St. Scholastica off the scoreboard until 5:58 remaining in the first quarter.
• Holding the Saints to 20 percent shooting in the opening quarter while shooting 53.3 percent for themselves, the Royals held a 19-9 advantage.
• Courtney Nuest knocked down a trey with 8:15 left in the second giving BU a double-digit lead the rest of the way.
• The Royals lead grew as large as 17 before going into the locker room up 34-20
 
Second Half
• Both teams shot an even 6-of-11 in the third as the Saints only got as close as 13.
• Lydia Hagstrom scored seven of her 17 points in the third helping BU open its lead to 52-35.
• A driving layup from Colette Duininck gave the Royals their largest lead of the night at 63-42.
• Jaelin Boyd closed out the scoring night hitting one of two free throws for her first collegiate point.
 
KEY PERFORMERS
• Lydia Hagstrom poured in a career-high 17 points on 7of-9 shooting while adding five boards, four steals, four blocks and two assists.
• Courtney Nuest also had a game-high 17 points doing so with three treys.
• Anna Garfield chipped in 10 points and five rebounds.
 
UP NEXT
The Royals close out the six-game home stand Saturday hosting Macalester for a 3 p.m. tipoff.
