Men's Track Places 2nd at Macalester Invite

RESULTS

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Bethel Royals scored 124 team points and placed 2nd as a team at the Hamster Invite hosted by Macalester College on Friday evening. "We had some incredible performances from our men tonight," said Head Coach Andrew Rock. "We're about to enter our championship season, and this meet should give us a lot of confidence going forward."

The Royals won four events on the day. Malachi Lossow won the 200m with a lightning fast start that propelled him to a time of 22.92. Ezekiel Lelinga ran his first 800m race of the season. "Zeke" came away with the victory as he pulled away from the field in the final lap and finished with a time of 1:58.33. Teammate Cooper Hitt ran 2:02.30 for 2nd place. Freshman Josh Sampson won the 60m hurdle race. Sampson came away from the meet with a personal best time of 8.38, the 32nd best time in Division III this season. Not even a dropped baton could stop the 4x400m relay team of Trokon Karngar, Tyler Sealock, Brandon Loverude, and Ezekiel Lelinga from taking home the victory. The quartet had a winning time of 3:39.24.

In the 400m race, sophomore Joel Smith ran with poise to take 2nd place in a massive personal best of 50.05. That time puts him at the top of the MIAC honor roll, and 21st in Division III. Senior Isaac Erickson took 3rd place with a season best time of 50.59 - the 2nd best time in the MIAC. Freshman Aidan St. George ran a terrific 3000m race and earned 4th with his time of 9:13.70.

In the field events, Jake Twogood continued his ascent in the pole vault. Twogood came away with another personal best, this time clearing 13'11.25"/4.25m, good enough for 2nd place. Gabe Irons also had a personal best on the evening. Irons toss of 50'11.25"/15.53m took 5th place overall. Sean Bjork also had a 5th place finish. Bjork jumped 20'3"/6.17m in the long jump.

The Royals will take their longest road trip of the indoor season next week as they travel to Grinnell College in Iowa on Saturday, February 15th. Several Bethel athletes will also compete at St. Thomas on Friday evening.
