ST. PAUL, Minn. - The final regular season meet for the Royals took place at Hamline University in the Meet of the UnSaintly. "You couldn't have asked for a better day," says Coach Rock. "Our goal was to get everyone ready for championship season whether that meant improving a mark to qualify or to rest this week."
Sophomore Sadie Koelz etched her name into Bethel Royals track and field history. Koelz cleared a lifetime best and Bethel Royals school record of 3.52m (11'6.5") in the pole vault. "We are so excited for Sadie!" says Rock. "She has been vaulting well and put together an incredible performance today." Koelz cleared 11 feet for the first time in her career when she made the height at 3.37m (11'0.75"). She followed that up with her clearance at 3.52m (11'6.5").
Several Royals improved their marks significantly including All-Americans Delia Labatt and Corin McKinstrey. Labatt was the top collegiate finisher in the 400m, running a season best 56.09. That is the top mark in the MIAC and the 7th best time in NCAA Division III. Teammate Corin McKinstrey ran a well executed 400m hurdle race and earned 2nd place with a lifetime best 1:03.54. That time ranks as the 2nd best in the MIAC and 23rd in Division III.
Senior captain AddieKay Johnson ran a terrific 400m race as well. Her season best time of 57.46 put her in 3rd place in the meet and 25th in Division III. Johnson and Labatt were joined by Grace Scott and Grace Perrenoud to earn 2nd place in the 4x100m relay. Their time of 48.30 is a season best and now makes Bethel the 23rd fastest team in Division III.
Grace Perrenoud also competed in the triple jump that was held on Friday evening. Perrenoud won the event with her first jump of 10.97m (36'0"). She now had the 2nd best jump in the MIAC this season. Teammate Hannah Nelson placed 7th in the triple jump with a lifetime best of 10.07m (33'0.5"). Distance runners Katherine Michelson and Maddie Van Ness were able to earn top-8 spots in their respective events. Van Ness took 8th in the first event of the day, the 5000m with her time of 22:38.01. Michelson closed out the day for Bethel in the 3000m steeplechase by placing 7th in 13:11.70.
