Women Place 4th at MIAC Indoor Championships

RESULTS

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - The Bethel Royals women's track and field team placed 4th at the MIAC Indoor Championships this weekend with 72 points. "Our women were fantastic this weekend," says Head Coach Andrew Rock. "You always want athletes to step up in the championships meets, and we had several women do just that this weekend with big time personal records."

The championship weekend began on Thursday with Syri Williams placed 7th in her first ever pentathlon with 2807 points. That mark is the 3rd best in program history and Williams became the first Royal to score in that event since 2012.

On Friday, Delia Labatt earned her second straight 400m title by running 58.05. Hannah Sankey had an indoor personal record in the same race with her 58.41, which placed her 3rd. AddieKay Johnson placed 5th in the 400m with a personal record of 59.23.

Those three women were joined by Corin McKinstrey to dominate the field in the 4x400m relay. The Royals won the race in a MIAC Conference Meet record time of 3:56.50. "To run what they ran at the end of a long weekend of racing shows how tough those women ran," says Rock. That team is currently the top ranked 4x400m relay team in NCAA Division III.

McKinstrey added points of her own in her individual event, the 60m hurdles. She ran a personal best of 9.40 to earn 4th place. That is the 4th best time in program history. AddieKay Johnson ran a personal best in an extremely fast 600m race of 1:37.12 to place 4th overall. That is the 3rd best time in program history. Delia Labatt added five more points, as she placed 4th in the 200m (26.03). The 4x200m relay team of Hannah Sankey, Grace Perrenoud, Grace Scott, and Corin McKinstrey placed 2nd with the 4th best time in school history, 1:45.88.

In the field events, Bethel was led by freshman Grace Perrenoud's 2nd place finish in the triple jump. "Grace was unbelievable this weekend," says Rock. "She hit her stride at the right time and showed maturity as a first year to perform well at the conference meet. She gave us much needed points in the jumps." Perrenoud's jump of 10.88m (35'8.5") is the 3rd best mark in program history, while teammate Sally Paul had a personal best of 10.60m (34'9.5") to place 8th (7th best in program history). Perrenoud also came away with 4 points in the long jump with a season best 5.29m (17'4.25") which is also the 3rd best performance in program history. Sophomore Lauren Wagner had a massive personal best in the weight throw of 13.25m (43'5.75") to place 8th overall (3rd best in program history).

"It was a great way to enter our championship season," says Rock. The Royals will run a select few athletes at the Wartburg Last Chance meet in hope to qualify for the NCAA Division III national meet in Boston, March 8-9. The top 20 individuals and the top 12 relay teams on the Division III honor roll will qualify for the national meet.
