GRINNELL, Iowa – The Bethel Royals placed fourth as a team at the Darren Young Classic at Grinnell College. "Our women came out to a competitive meet in a big time facility a long ways from home and they didn't back down," says Head Coach Andrew Rock. "The Grinnell meet is a highlight for us every year."
The biggest highlight of the day came from the women's 4x400m relay team of Hannah Sankey, Delia Labatt, Corin McKinstrey, and AddieKay Johnson. The quartet blitzed the field and won the event by over 8 seconds. Their time of 3:57.61 is the top time in the MIAC this year, as well as the 4th best time in NCAA Division III thus far. In the open 400m, Labatt took third place in a race that featured 3 All-Americans from last year's indoor 400m. Her time of 58.23 now leads the MIAC and puts her 12th in Division III. Teammate Hannah Sankey placed 4th with a season best time of 58.53 (2nd in the MIAC and 17th in Division III), while AddieKay Johnson placed 5th with a lifetime best of 59.68 (4th in the MIAC).
Corin McKinstrey continued to perform well in her shorter event, the 60H. McKinstrey set a lifetime best with 9.47 seconds to place her 3rd overall. That is the 3rd best time in the MIAC and the 4th best time in Bethel program history. Malachi Holloway ran the 800m for the second time this season. She came away with 4th place as she ran 2:26.97. Ellie Nelson ran a massive indoor personal best in the 5000m by running a 19:25.81 and placing 6th. Sally Paul jumped a season best 10.43m (34'2.75") to take 6th in the triple jump.
The Bethel women will compete next weekend at the University of Minnesota as the Gophers host the Parent's Day Invite on Saturday, February 16.
