Hastings, Minn. — Bethel University's women's golf team rallied up two teams to compete at Bellwood Oaks Golf Club for the College City Challenge this weekend. Led by Christine Piwnica and Leah Swanson, BU fell ten strokes behind St. Catherine University's first-place score of 641, which secured a fourth-place finish for the second week in a row.
Christine Piwnica's performance was the key factor that propelled the Royals toward fourth place. Piwnica housed a first-round score of 76 and a final-round score of 78, allowing her to vault to the top of the individual leaderboard for the first time this season. She towered over the remaining 68 competitors with a three-way tie for first place.
Leah Swanson also played a large role in Bethel's success with a first-round score of 78 and a commendable combined score of 160. She sealed a spot in the top ten, walking home with a three-way tie for eighth place. Behind Swanson was Hannah Williams, who fired an opening round of 84 and finished with an 82 on day two. Kayla Ruf and Abby Perrenoud rounded out BU's scoring with a two-day total of 172 and 173, respectively.
Shayla Norgaard led the junior varsity girls with a consistent score of 85 in both rounds. She earned 32nd place individually in the 71-girl tournament.
The Royals have until Oct. 8th to prepare for the MIAC Championships in Coon Rapids, Minn.
