RESULTS
WAVERLY, Iowa—The Bethel University's women's golf team broke a single-round record on the final day of the Wartburg Fall Invite to propel them to a fourth-place finish at the 14-team event. The Royals, who were in seventh place after day one with a score of 331, came back on Sunday with an astonishing 311, which placed them among the Top 4 teams after the two-day, 36-hole meet. BU finished the weekend with a final score of 642 at the par-72, 5,866-yard Prairie Links Golf Course in Waverly, Iowa.
BU was led by
Christine Piwnica, who was sensational on both days. Piwnica finished third among 87 golfers with a two-day score of 147, which was just two strokes back of medalist. Piwnica composed a 76 on Saturday, which put her in second place after day one and despite shooting a career-best 71 on Sunday, Piwnica moved down to third overall with a final score that was just three-over-par.
Piwnica wasn't the only BU golfer to go low on day two, as five other team members improved on their second 18. Among those was
Hannah Williams, who manufactured an 86 on Saturday and a blistering 78 on Sunday for a two-day total of 164.
Right behind Williams was newcomer
Kayla Ruf, who posted an 85 Saturday and an 80 on Sunday.
Leah Swanson rounded out the Royals Top 4 scores with a 166 over the course of two days, thanks to an 84 Saturday and an 82 Sunday. Kayln Root fired back-to-back 83's as an individual for a two-day score of 166 as well.
Abby Perrenoud, Kirsten Olsen, and
Shayla Norgaard finished with very respectable scores of 171, 171, and 186, but their scores did not count on either day.
The Royals are right back in action this weekend at the Division III Classic hosted at The Jewel in Lake City, Minnesota.
