Royals Hold Off Carleton Comeback, Pick up 71-58 Win in Northfield

Box Score NORTHFIELD, Minn.—Bethel University picked up their second consecutive road victory and third in the MIAC with a 71-58 win at Carleton College Saturday.  The Royals established a commanding 39-22 lead at the midway mark and, despite the Knights coming within three points in the second half, held on to defeat Carleton by a 13-point margin.

It was a busy day for both teams defensively, as the two squads combined for 17 blocks. BU finished the conference affair with 10 of those 17 behind Rachel Parupsky's five in 28 minutes played. Blocks were a big reason why Bethel finished the game shooting 39.4 percent after shooting 16-of-32 in the opening frame.

Bethel's defensive effort was critical in their offensive production. The Royals forced Carleton into 24 turnovers, opposed to BU's 15. And that nine-turnover difference led to a 27-10 ratio in favor of Bethel for points scored off turnovers.

Parupsky, Kalli Zimmermann, and Sydney Schultz all had exceptional performances throughout the Saturday matinee. Parupsky led all Bethel scorers with 20 points, alongside nine rebounds, five blocks, two assists, and two steals. Zimmermann, who had 13 points in the opening half, finished the game with 17 points, eight rebounds, and five steals. Sydney Schultz gathered 14 points on 4-of-12 shooting as well as four rebounds and two steals.

The Royals bench outscored Carleton's 17-2. Lindy Parker was Bethel's strongest contributor off the bench, finishing with six points and five rebounds in 17 minutes. Angie Kirchoff added five points, two boards, and two assists.

Now 11-3 overall and 5-3 in MIAC play, Bethel will attempt to make it four straight and three consecutive on the road when they travel to St. Peter, Minn., Wednesday evening for a 7 p.m. matchup with Gustavus Adolphus College. Following their date with the Golden Gusties on Wednesday, BU travels to Northfield again next Saturday to take on St. Olaf before finishing their regular season with eight of their last nine games at home.
