Box Score Box ScoreARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The Bethel University Men's soccer team took a 4-0 victory from the Rockford University Regents on Saturday afternoon, grabbing their second consecutive victory. The Royals once again showed a much more aggressive approach than their opponent, dominating the time of possession with good rhythm and a stout defense.
After squandering several early scoring opportunities,
Ryan Ness converted the first goal for the Royals in the 15
th minute, heading a pass from
Curt Levalley just out of the reach of Regent's goalkeeper Kyle Adams.
Coach Iwaszkoviec acknowledged the slow start for the Royals saying, "We struggled in the first half to put the ball in the net, to be honest I was a little bit disappointed."
Despite these early setbacks, the Royals continued to pound away at the Regent's defense, ultimately taking a two goal lead into the second half. Senior
Matthew Pisarski led the charge for the Royals, scoring two consecutive goals on assists from
Tim Ness and
Jeremy Tan respectively.
As was the case in the previous game against Northwestern, the Royals balanced an aggressive offensive approach with a tactically sound defensive scheme. Freshman goalkeeper
Jakob Bartels got the start for the Royals and faced just one shot on goal from the Regents. The Royals also received significant contributions from fellow freshmen
Abner Arias-Olson,
Kevin Hintz and
Jake Worthen, all getting significant minutes off the bench.
While the Royals have enjoyed great success in the last two home games, coach Iwaszkoviec knows there is room for improvement heading into the third week of the season. The Royals coach addressed these issues saying, "We need to shore-up a few things in the midfield and get on the end of some crosses."
The Men's squad will play next on Wednesday continuing their extended homestretch against North Central University at 4 PM.
