ST. PETER, MINN.—The No. 5 seed Bethel University men's soccer team concluded their 2025 season with a 3-0 loss to No. 4 seed Gustavus Adolphus in the quarterfinal of the MIAC Playoffs in St. Peter, Minnesota on Monday afternoon.
The Royals, who made their fourth appearance in the MIAC Playoffs, end the season with a 10-6-3 record. The Gusties improve to 14-4-1 and move onto the MIAC Semifinal against No. 2 seed Macalester on Thursday, November 6 at 4 p.m.
Gustavus 3, Bethel 0
The final score didn't reflect the back-and-forth play as both teams finished with 12 shots apiece, which included a 7-6 advantage for the Royals in a scoreless opening half.
A foul in the box resulted in a penalty kick opportunity for Gustavus's Joe Flory, who gave his team a 1-0 lead in the 58th minute.
The final 12 minutes resulted in a 4-2 shots advantage for the Royals. However, both of Gustavus's shots within that time frame resulted in goals courtesy of Kieran Mahan in the 88th minute, and David Castillon in the 89th minute that sealed a 3-0 victory for the Gusties.
Each team was called for four infractions for a total of eight in the contest.
Flory registered one goal, one assist, three points, and four shots for the Gusties. Kyle Roy paced the Royals with four shots in the match.
Bethel goalkeeper Griffin Blokker made five saves, while Jackson Baker stopped seven shots for Gustavus.
The Royals bid farewell to seniors David Erickson, Ryan Swanda, Jordan Ross, Dylan Magistad, and Silas Ihde.
