Multi-Homerun Day for Jackson Not Enough for Bethel

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

RIVER FALLS, Wis.—Bethel University's softball team played its third doubleheader of the week Thursday afternoon with a pair of nonconference road games against the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. The Royals (13-10, 4-2 MIAC) couldn't hold on to a late lead in game one, as the Falcons (13-12) scored three late runs to secure the 8-6 victory, and Bethel dropped the second as well, 6-1.

Junior shortstop Angie Jackson had another great day at the plate, finishing the twin bill 4-for-6 with a walk, two RBI, and four runs scored. Jackson's stat line included two home runs, a double, and a single. The 2013 NFCA All-American and MIAC Most Valuable Player is quietly improving her average and is now batting .432 on the season.

Teammate Caroline Kivisto finished Thursday's games 2-for-5 with two walks, and one run, while Kelsey Anderson was 1-for-4 in the opener today with a run and two RBI.

Anderson drove in Jackson in the first inning of game one and then again in the third inning as part of a four-run, five-hit rally. Paige Weiske, Brooke Charleston, and Micayla Moore also hit RBI base hits in the frame. Jackson later drove a home run to left center in the sixth inning to go ahead 6-5, but it wasn't enough as the Royals allowed the Falcons a three-run homerun in the bottom of the sixth.

Karli Persson allowed six hits and five earned runs in 2.0 innings, while Courtney Saurer received the loss in the opener after allowing six hits and three earned runs in 4.0 innings of relief.

Angie Jackson homered in her first at-bat of game two—making it back-to-back jacks for the right-handed batter—but that was all the Royals could muster offensively in the second contest. Bethel left five team members on the base paths and mustered just three hits total throughout the seven-inning affair.

Lindsay Edeen pitched a complete game for the Royals, allowing 10 hits, five earned runs and two walks in 6.0 innings pitched. With the loss, Edeen drops to 6-2 on the season.

Bethel will finish their crazy week this Saturday in Moorhead, Minn., as they travel north to take on the Cobbers of Concordia College. The MIAC matchup will be the Royals fourth doubleheader of the week with four more scheduled next week as well. First pitch Saturday is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
