Zimmermann Earns BU's Second Straight Player of the Week

MIAC Release

The Bethel women's basketball team scored a pair of important conference wins to secure its spot in the MIAC Playoff field behind a huge week from first-year forward Kalli Zimmermann (Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park). The Royal rookie scored at least 25 points in each of two road wins last week and averaged 27 points and 7.5 rebounds per game while shooting .667 from the floor. For her performance, Zimmermann was named the MIAC Women's Basketball Athlete-of-the-Week.

Bethel's breakout star began her big week with a 29-point, nine-rebound, two-block, two-steal performance in a 66-60 win at Gustavus, and she was sensational again with 25 points and six boards in a 68-53 victory at Augsburg. Zimmermann was 16-for-24 from the floor and 21-for-27 from the line in the two games combined. She has now reached double figures 19 times this season, and ranks third in the MIAC in scoring at 14.9 points per game. She is also the league leader in made free throws (131), fifth in steals (51), third in blocked shots (31) and field goal percentage (50.0) and sixth in rebounding (7.3 per game).

With the two wins, Bethel improved to 17-6 overall and 15-5 in the MIAC, and the Royals have secured a top-four seed in the MIAC Playoffs and a home game in the quarterfinals. Zimmermann and her teammates will try to complete the regular season with momentum, as they end with home games against St. Catherine Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. and St. Olaf Saturday at 1 p.m.
