ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The Bethel University Women's soccer team put on a dominating performance Tuesday afternoon against the Northwestern Eagles, capturing their third consecutive win. Bethel outscored Northwestern 6-0, netting three goals in each period and allowing just one shot to their opponent.
The Royals came out firing on all cylinders, scoring on their very first possession when
Blythe Whealy converted a pass from
Savannah Swanson just 15 seconds into the game. It was the Royals' quickest strike of the season, but they weren't finished there. They would eventually get two more goals in a two-minute span from Swanson and
Emma Mattheisen respectively.
Despite this early scoring outburst, head coach
Amanda Maxwell was most impressed with her team's defense. "We were proud of our players for maintaining another shutout this season," said Maxwell. Her point is well taken as the Royals have shutout their opponents in each of their last three wins.
Maxwell's squad would continue to dominate the time of possession in the second half as they received goals from
Deanna Voss,
Sarah Wagman and
Danielle Voss respectively. It was the first collegiate goals for all three of the Royals second half scorers. Twin sisters Deanna and
Danielle Voss connected with each other on the final score of the game when Deanna assisted Danielle. When it was all said and done the Royals had outshot the Eagles 31-1 and secured a comfortable non-conference victory.
Bethel will now resume their conference schedule when they travel to face Hamline on Saturday before returning for their final home game against Gustavus. The Royals will be looking for their fourth straight win and third consecutive in conference play.
