ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The Bethel University Women's soccer team held on for a 2-0 victory Wednesday afternoon against the MIAC-leading Concordia Cobbers. Despite being outshot 20-9 the Royals took advantage of their opportunities with two first-half goals and never looked back.
Head coach
Amanda Maxwell knew the Royals had a tough matchup with the No. 12 ranked Cobbers but she kept it simple for her team. "Our goal of the day was to play a full 90 minutes and the girls reached their goal."
The Royals struck quickly once again on Wednesday as
Savannah Swanson netted her first of two goals in the fourth minute on an assist from fellow striker
Jessica Huseby. It is the second straight home game for the Royals in which they have scored in the opening five minutes. Swanson and Huseby would connect for their second goal in the 35th minute to take a two-goal lead heading into halftime.
Concordia would have few legitimate scoring chances in the second half and failed to break through against the Royals defense.
Micale Jensen made nine saves for the Royals in posting her third shutout this season. The Cobbers would fall to 11-2-1 on the season, their only other loss coming to the No. 6 ranked Wheaton College Thunder.
The Royals will improve to 2-8-3 on the season and now look ahead to Saturday's home game against Saint Mary's University. They will be searching for their third win in five games after going winless through their first nine games.
