Bethel Remains Unbeaten in MIAC Play with 63-59 Win

Box Score

ARDEN HILLS, Minn.—Bethel University's women's basketball team trailed by seven points midway through the second half, but that didn't faze them. The Royals (7-1, 5-0 MIAC), instead, used it as motivation on their way to a 20-9 run throughout the remainder of the period—leading to a 63-59 victory at the Robertson Center Gym. With the win, Bethel remains unbeaten in conference play.

Head coach for the Blazers (5-4, 2-4 MIAC), Mike Durbin, was at 599 career wins coming into Saturday's matinee. But Durbin will have to wait for the prestigious membership to the 600 Club.

The Royals outrebounded CSB 5-46 and forced the Blazers into 17 turnovers, while also holding their opponents to 32.9 percent shooting from the floor. Bethel capitalized on Saint Benedict's 17 turnovers with 16 points-off-turnovers and outscored the Blazers 36-32 in the paint.

Rachel Parupsky led BU with 20 points and 11 rebounds, while recording three blocks and one assist. It was Parupsky's third double-double of the season, as she shot 8-of-19 from the floor (42 percent) and hauled down three offensive rebounds.

Kalli Zimmermann added her own double-dip performance—finishing with 17 points and 12 rebounds—alongside three assists, two blocks, and two steals. Saturday was Zimmermann's second double-double of the season. She has scored in double figures in every game except last Saturday's loss at Buena Vista.

Sophomore guard Hannah Niewald contributed 12 points, six rebounds, and three steals.

Morgan Dale finished with seven points and 21 rebounds for the Blazers Saturday.

The Royals' matchup against St. Thomas that was originally scheduled for Monday, January 6 was postponed until January 13. As a result, Bethel's next opponent will be Gustavus Adolphus on January 8 at the Robertson Center Gym at 7:30 p.m.
