Bethel Stays Undefeated at Home with Win over Augsburg

Box Score

ARDEN HILLS, Minn.—A 38-30 push in the second half helped the Bethel University women's basketball team score a much-needed 67-58 win over Augsburg College. With the win, the Royals (11-2, 9-1 MIAC) improved to 9-1 in conference play—winning nine of their first ten conference games.

Play was even throughout the first 28 minutes of the game, but it was an 11-6 run for the Royals that gave the home team a necessary push. Bethel then acquired a 60-53 lead with 3:25 left in the game after a 6-0 run completed by a Shanni Moorse layup underneath.

"I was very pleased to get another win this week," said head coach Jon Herbrechtsmeyer. "I was disappointed that we didn't execute our defensive game plan on their two leading scorers, but I was very pleased with our full court pressure."

Sophomore center, Rachel Parupsky, looked poised to take over Saturday's matinee, as she had a game-high 24 points on 9-of-14 shooting. Parupsky scored 12 points in each half, while also grabbing 12 rebounds and swatting two blocks—her fifth double-double of the 2013-14 season. Fellow sophomore teammate, Hannah Niewald, finished 4-of-8 from the floor for 12 points, while adding five rebounds and three assists.

"It was great to have Rachel have a solid night and I thought Hannah and Shanni both gave us a huge lift this afternoon," said Herbrechtsmeyer.

As a team, BU shot 44 percent from the floor and cashed in 20-of-30 attempts from the foul line. Bethel outrebound Augsburg 39-34, which led to a 19-13 advantage in second chance points. The Royals bench also outscored the Auggies 9-3.

The Royals will now endure a stretch of games that sees them on the road for four of their next five matchups. Bethel will take on St. Olaf in Northfield, Minn., on Monday for a men's and women's hoops double header. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:45 p.m.
