Tommies End Royals Seven-Game Win Streak in League Play

Box Score

ST. PAUL—Bethel's seven-game win streak against MIAC opponents came to an end Monday night, as St. Thomas held BU's women's basketball squad to its lowest points scored all season long. The Royals (9-2, 7-1 MIAC) manufactured just 52 points in the 52-69 setback to the Tommies (10-2, 8-1 MIAC), who were coming off their first conference loss of the season last Saturday.

Bethel's Rachel Parupsky was taken out of the game early due to foul trouble and the Royals felt the effect immediately. The Tommies outrebounded BU 42-31 throughout the game, which led to a 16-3 margin for points off turnovers in favor of UST.

In addition to a rebounding disadvantage, BU also struggled from the floor—tallying its worst shooting performance in quite some time. The Royals shot 15-of-55 (27.3 percent) from the field, including a 1-of-12 (8.3 percent) mark from beyond the 3-point arc. Bethel did, however, take more free throws than the Tommies and converted 21-of-24 chances from the charity stripe.

Rachel Parupsky led the team with 14 points, five rebounds, and two blocks in 23 minutes played. In addition, Kalli Zimmermann also scored in double figures—adding 11 points and five boards. Hannah Niewald added seven points, while Shanni Moorse and Micaella Petrich each added five.

St. Thomas's Taylor Young led all scorers with 23 points, while Maggie Weiers had 13 points and 13 rebounds.

The good news is that the Royals are only a half game back of first place. Bethel will look to rebound Saturday with a home matchup against Augsburg College at 1 p.m. The scheduled event will be the first of two games that day with the men to follow at 3 p.m.
