ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The Bethel University men's soccer team dropped a rain-soaked game to the Carleton Knights on Saturday, by a final score of 4-1. With the loss, the Royals fall to 3-5 on the season and 1-3 in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) play.
The Knights began the game with great energy, scoring their first goal just nine minutes after the opening kick. Bethel, however, answered quickly as freshman
Danny Jaderholm tallied the equalizer, with
Kolten Fischer and Matt Pisarski assisting. The game would remain even for the rest of the first half and well into the second as well, until Carleton's Neil Bartholomay scored on a header off of a Knight corner kick in the 64
th minute. Two more Knight goals in the final 10 minutes would make the final 4-1.
"I don't feel that the scoreline does justice for the effort our boys put in," Coach Iwaszkowiec said. "We changed our formation late in the game pushing for that equalizing goal, but unfortunately some turnovers in our half led to easy counter attacks for a team of that caliber."
The Royals will need to rebound quickly, as they host the University of St. Thomas in another MIAC contest on Tuesday at 4:00. Coach Iwaszkowiec sees how close his team is to hitting their stride, and is looking forward to the upcoming matchup.
"I love the passion and intensity and effort that our boys are playing with," he said. "Their confidence in one another is growing and we are not far off from firing on all cylinders."
