Bethel Earns First MIAC Victory in 3-0 Decision

Royals top Macalester on the road in straight sets

Box Score

ST. PAUL—Three players recorded double-digit kills for Bethel University's volleyball team Friday night, which led to a 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-18) victory over Macalester College. The Royals (9-8, 1-2 MIAC) recorded 44 kills and 12 blocks against the opposing Scots (8-7, 1-2 MIAC), while also recording 37 total assists and a team attacking percentage of .255.

Nicole Ackatz led the trio of hitters to go for double-digits—finishing with 12 kills, three digs, two block assists, and a hitting mark of .571. Carlee Hoppe and Nicole Deberry each managed 11 kills throughout the night, with Deberry hitting .444 and Hoppe .259. Hoppe also mustered seven digs and one block assist.

The defensive curtain in Friday's conference showdown was Lindsay Kerr, as the freshman out of St. Cloud, Minn., finished with four kills and four blocks for the Royals. Others making noise on the court were Kali Johnson, Katie Lubben, and Ashlyn Hucky. Johnson finished with three kills and six digs, while Lubben and Huckey tallied 17 and 15 assists, respectively.

Bethel's defining moment of the night came with the score knotted at eight in the final set and the Royals—with Hannah Grow serving—went on an 8-1 rally that buried any thought of a Macalester comeback and sealed the shutout for BU.

The Royals will need to bring the same energy in less than 24 hours when they host St. Catherine at the Robertson Center Gym Saturday at 3 p.m. The Wildcats are looking for their first conference win after starting the MIAC season with three losses. Live stats and webcast will be available here.
