Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

ARDEN HILLS, Minn.—Bethel University obliterated its short-term losing skid with a thrilling two-game sweep over the College of Saint Benedict Sunday. What was originally scheduled to be played as a double-header Saturday, the Royals (11-11, 2-4 MIAC) outscored the Blazers (11-7, 0-2 MIAC) 10-4 in game one and erased a 6-0 deficit in the second contest to win in walk-off fashion 7-6.

Angie Jackson (So., Oakdale, Minn.) had quite the day for herself, as she started the first seven-inning set 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. Megan Matson (Sr., Mound, Minn.), Tara Schinke (Jr., Long Lake, Minn.), and Cristina Masten (Jr., Fergus Falls, Minn.) also had multi-hit performances, as each batter added two hits.

The pitching circle belonged to Karli Persson (Fr., Albany, Minn.) throughout most of the day, as Persson finished the first game with a four-run, three-strikeout performance throughout the entire seven innings.

The second seven-inning affair was dramatically different than the first—as the Blazers took a 6-0 lead after three innings of play. The Royals never quit, though, cutting into the deficit with three runs in the fourth inning and three more in the sixth to tie the game at 6-6. A walk-off sacrifice fly by Angie Jackson scored Cristina Masten in the bottom of the seventh frame to give the Royals its first walk-off of the 2013 season.

16 hits in the second competition awarded six players with a mult-hit effort, including Jackson, who finished 2-for-4 with a run scored and the game-winning RBI. Jess Newstrom and Cristina Masten both went 3-for-4—including Masten's two doubles and a triple and Newstrom's three singles. Masten finished the day with nine total bases in eight plate appearances. Tara Schinke led the Royals in RBI for game two with two runs driven in.

Courtney Saurer (So., Chanhassen, Minn.) started game two, but was pulled after the first 2.1 innings, however, Karli Persson picked Saurer up with 4.2 scoreless innings, giving up one hit and one walk, while striking out three. For her relief effort Persson picked up her second win of the day and improved to 7-6 on the season with a 2.45 ERA.

The Royals have two sets of double-headers scheduled for the following week—one against St. Catherine and the other against Augsburg—but play could be dictated by weather. Wednesday's pair against the Wildcats is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. as of now.
