ARDEN HILLS, Minn.—The Bethel University softball continued a 10-game winning streak Friday with a pair of victories over Concordia College-Moorhead in conference play. The Royals (19-11, 10-4 MIAC) jumped on the Cobbers (4-14, 1-5 MIAC) in game one 10-0 in five innings before coming from behind in the second tilt for an 11-3 triumph.

Four players from the BU squad tallied multi-hit efforts in game one, with most of the scoring coming in the fifth inning. Rachel Gilbert, Megan Matson, Angie Jackson, and Kalyn Sorensen each recorded a pair of hits, with Matson, Jackson, and Jess Newstrom each crossing the plate twice. Meanwhile Paige Weiske got the start at designated hitter and drove in Bethel's first three runs.

Two-time MIAC Softball Pitcher of the Week Karli Persson tossed a six-hit, one-walk complete-game shutout in game one. The freshman from Albany, Minn., improved to 12-6 with an earned run average of 2.50.

Concordia-Moorhead struck first in the second game, plating two runs in the first inning on a two-run home run. Bethel evened the score in the second inning before the Cobbers took the lead in the fifth. The Royals did not panic, however, scoring nine runs in the top of the seventh inning to secure the 11-3 advantage.

Jess Newstrom, who had three home runs and 12 RBI Thursday night, went 2-for-5 in the second contest with two more runs batted in. Additionally, Megan Matson, Cristina Masten, and Tara Schinke each added multiple hits. Angie Jackson and Kalyn Sorensen also had two RBI in game two.

Sophomore hurler Courtney Saurer improved to 7-4 on the year following her five-hit, two-walk complete game showcase. Saurer struck out three in the seven innings pitched.

Now 10-4 against MIAC opponents and 19-11 overall, Bethel will face Hamline University Saturday for its third double header in four days. The Pipers, who are 14-10 with a 9-3 mark in conference play, will come to Ona Orth Complex for a twin bill set to begin at 1 p.m. For live video of Saturday afternoon's matinee, click here.
