ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The Bethel University men's soccer team halted their four-game skid on Tuesday, defeating the Coe College Kohawks by a final score of 3-0 in the second game of a men/women double header.
"The game was good for us today," said Bethel head coach Jeremy Iwaszkowiec. "We scored some nice goals and created a number of quality chances. Our defense held on for the shutout and I am proud of our overall effort. We played a number of players as well which is always fun and we definitely took care of business. Hopefully we can build on this as we prepare for St. John's and Wartburg this weekend."
Bethel's first goal came less than two minutes after the opening kickoff, as
Matthew Pisarski tapped in the ball off of a nice setup from
Kolten Fischer. The first half remained scoreless, and the teams went into the break separated by one.
Again, it didn't take long for Bethel to find the net after the kickoff, as sophomore
Ryan Ness slammed one home off a rebound on
Stephen Gronseth's shot off the post to increase Bethel's lead to two goals. About twenty seconds later, Pisarski stole a Kohawk pass and sent it past the goalie for the unassisted goal, his second of the contest. Bethel outshot Coe 21-7 on the afternoon.
Bethel returns to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) play on Saturday as they travel to Collegeville to take on St. John's University in an 11 a.m. kickoff.
