WAVERLY, Iowa – The Bethel University men's soccer team was unable to hold onto a halftime lead and fell by a score of 2-1 on the road to No. 15 ranked Wartburg College Sunday afternoon. The Royals held a 1-0 advantage coming into the second half but two quick goals by the Knights dashed the Royals upset hopes.
Tim Ness found the lower left corner of the net to give the Royals an early lead. Ness' goal came 17 minutes into the first half. Wartburg, who entered the game with 10-2-2 record and the No. 15 national ranking, came out of the half and six minutes into the second period took the lead for good with two goals less than a minute apart. Bethel would be unable to score the equalizer and fell to 4-9 on the year.
The Royals will continue their stretch of road games when they head to Moorhead, Minn., on Tuesday to take on the Concordia College Cobbers. The MIAC match will kick off at 3:30 p.m.
