Shooting Drought Results in 64-43 Loss to Augsburg

Bethel musters 29.8 shooting percentage in MIAC loss

Box Score

MINNEAPOLIS – A tough offensive night for Bethel led to a 64-43 loss to Augsburg College at Si Melby Hall in conference play Monday night. The Royals (0-4, 0-3 MIAC) were in a shooting drought all night, making under 30 percent of its field goals and 55 percent of its free throws, while the Auggies (3-2, 1-2 MIAC) completed 45 percent of its shots in its first MIAC win of the 2012-13 campaign.

BU was competitive throughout the game's first ten minutes—trailing by four with thanks to a jumper by Kristi Nye Studanski (Sr., Brentwood, Tenn.)—but a 12-0 run for the Auggies quickly separated the two opponents, as Augsburg went into intermission with the 36-20 lead.

The Royals trimmed the Auggies lead to eight early in the second half, but nine straight Augsburg buckets resulted in a 17-point lead that proved to be too much for Bethel in the end.

Sydney Schultz (Fr., Dalton, Minn.) had a solid performance, coming off the bench to add 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting, while Nye Studanski had nine points, four assists, and four steals. Rachel Parupsky (Fr., Arden Hills, Minn.) also had five points, five blocks, and nine rebounds.

Marie Fitzgerald led the Auggies with 13 points and two rebounds. Brittany Zins had nine points and nine boards.

The Royals will play at home for the first time of the 2012 season Wednesday night, as Bethel welcomes Gustavus Adolphus College for a MIAC matchup that is set to tip-off at 7:30 p.m. in the Robertson Center Gym. A live webcast will be available here.
