ST. PAUL – In a game where senior guard
Taylor Sheley (Sr., Backus, Minn.) needed just four points to enter the esteemed Bethel University 1,000-point club, the four-year contributor delivered 19 in the Royals 60-52 victory over Macalester College. Throughout the afternoon contest BU forced 19 Scot turnovers, opposed to the Royals 12. Those 19 Macalester turnovers resulted in 22 points for the Blue and Gold.
Macalester manufactured a seven-point lead within the first five minutes of play, leading BU 12-7. The Scots maintained its seven-point advantage all the way until the 8:53 mark. The Royals continued to battle, however, and took its first lead since the 17:57-mark with two seconds remaining in the period. The first half ended with a 31-29 score in favor of Bethel.
The Scots came back to take the one-point lead with 15 minutes remaining in the game, yet from then on it would be all BU. The Royals went on a 14-2 run over the next seven minutes, which proved to be the pivotal point of the game. When the final buzzer of regulation hit, Bethel owned Macalester in the Leonard Center 60-52.

Jon Herbrechtsmeyer's team clicked on all cylinders Saturday as its defense created numerous opportunities to score and the offense delivered. The Royals outscored the Scots in the paint 36-28, converted more second-chance opportunities (10-5), and received more help from its bench play by outscoring Macalester College 19-9.
The night belonged to
Taylor Sheley in more than one way. On top of being awarded with her 1,000
th point, Sheley led all scorers with 19 points, eight rebounds, five assists, two steals, and one block. The Royals also picked up significant help from
Kelly Swenson (Jr., Dawson, Minn.) and
Lindy Parker (Fr., Rosemount, Minn.). Swenson dropped 12 points, tore down four boards, while dishing out one assist. Parker delivered seven points and pulled down six rebounds.
Since dropping its opening game against Wisconsin-Lutheran Bethel has since won four straight contests and now stands at 4-1 (2-0 MIAC). BU plays its first home match of the season Monday against an athletic Augsburg College, where it puts it four-game winning streak on the line.
