Women's Basketball Comes Up Short Against Tommies

January 29, 2011

Sheley lead the Royals with 12 points
BOX SCORE

The Bethel women faced a tough St. Thomas squad tonight at the new Schoenecker area in St. Paul. The Tommies got out to a quick start and never gave the Royals a chance to find a rhythm. At the half the Royals found themselves down by 22 as they went into the locker room. The spread did not change by much in the second half as the Royals went down by the final of 49-73.

Taylor Sheley (Jr., Backus, Minn.), and Scotti Moats (So., Waconia, Minn.), lead the Royals offense putting up 12 and 11 points respectively. As a team the offense had difficulties shooting 33.3% from the field in the first half, and only 28% in the second. Moats also had 5 rebounds on the night, as did sophomore Kelly Swenson (Dawson, Minn.).

The Tommies had the women put up double figures in the game. In the first half they were able to put up some big numbers by being 5-6 from beyond the 3-point line. St. Thomas shot 47.4% from the field on the night.

The Royals drop to 8-9 overall and 6-8 in the MIAC. They will need to find a way to win as they now sit on the bubble for a spot in the conference playoffs. They will be in action again come Monday when they take on the conference leaders St. Benedict in St. Joseph. Tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
