ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - The Bethel University Men's Soccer team fell just short this afternoon, as they were defeated in their season opener 2-0 by the University of Wisconsin-Superior Yellowjackets at the Ona Orth Sports Complex.

In the first half of play, the Royals and Yellowjackets played stellar defense as shots were held to a minimal. The 0-0 tie was broke late in the first with UW-Superior's Ben Royce collecting the first goal of the match with two minutes remaining in the half.

Continuing the trend of a low-scoring affair, the game remained 1-0 Yellowjackets late into the second half of play. It wasn't until three minutes remaining in the game when Superior found some insurance with their second goal coming off a penalty kick thus providing the Yellowjackets with a 2-0 lead.

With only three minutes remaining in play, the Royals failed to conjure up some magic with the final being 2-0 in favor of the Yellowjackets. The Royal's effort was led by David Swenson (Sr., Ham Lake, Minn.) and Andreas Scott (Sr., Cedar, Minn.), as both had two shots on the afternoon.

Bethel continues play this weekend in Oregon where they will be taking on Whitman College on Saturday in Willamette, Oregon, and Willamette University on Sunday in Salem, Oregon. Both games follow the Bethel Women's matches.
