ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - The Royals were in action tonight at Bethel's Robertson Center to host conference opponent Gustavus Adolphus College. The Royals were able to get off to a quick start and put away the first two sets before making a come back in the fourth set to seal the victory 3-1.
The Royals but the first set away quickly defeating the Gusties 25-16. The second match was much of the same with the score of 25-18 in favor of the Royals. Then it was the Gusties that got of to a good start in the third set being up as much as 10-17 at one point before the Royals were able to make them fight for the win. The Royals were able to tie set 3 at 23 before the Gusties managed to put the set away 23-25. In the final set the Royals made sure they sealed the deal putting away the Gusties 25-12.
The Royals offense was an evenly spread team effort, getting solid contributions from
Brianna Falck (Sr., DeForest, Wis.),
Nicole Wriedt (Jr., Pewaukee, Wis),
Caitie Helle (So., Onamia, Minn.), and
Amy Werner (So., Three Rivers, Wis.) who combined for 63 kills. Falck also had 2 service aces.
Kate Smith (Jr., Arden Hills, Minn.), and
Betsy Naatjes (Sr., Sioux Falls, S.D.) had 28 and 22 assists respectively. On the defensive side of the ball the Royals Valerie Smith (So., Alexandria, Minn.) had 20 digs.
The Royals season will come to a close on Friday when the host Hamline University. The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
