ARDEN HILLS, Minn. -
Bethel's attempt to win back-to-back conference games was thwarted by St. Thomas tonight, as the visiting Tommies defeated the Royals 65-41.

Bethel held the lead against St. Thomas by as much as seven points in the first half, but the Tommies came back strong and finished the half leading the Royals 35-21, as they were able to capitalize on their missed shots with multiple rebounds. In the second half, the Royals were unable to get their offense going as much as they would have liked.  Although they continued to battle hard and give it their all, the Tommies were able to keep their comfortable lead through to the end.

Taylor Sheley (So., Backus, Minn) and Kristi Nye (So., Nashville, Tenn.) shared the lead with eight points each, and Rachel Gilbert (Fr., Becker, Minn.) was close behind with seven points under her belt. Shana Grejtak (Jr., Franklin, Minn.), Scottie Moats (Fr., Waconia, Minn.), and Amy Werner (Fr., Three Lakes, wisc.) all played a great game off the back board leading the team with six rebounds apiece.

Two players for St.Thomas stood out as Becky Theisen led the team with 17 points against the Royals, and Rachel Booth managed to put up 14 of her own.

With the loss to St. Thomas, the Royals are now 2-8 overall, putting them at 1-6 in the conference, while the Tommies record improves to 7-3 in their season and 4-3 in the MIAC. The Royals have an opportunity to improve their record against St. Olaf College on Saturday, Jan 9, at 1 p.m. in Northfield.
