Kristi Nye (So., Nashville, Tenn.) and
Taylor Sheley (So., Backus, Minn.) each scored 13 points to lead the visiting Bethel Royals past the Carleton Knights 58-50.
The Royals and Knights matched one another's defensive intensity tonight in the first half as neither team was able to sustain much offense as the Royals finished shooting just over 30 percent and the Knights shooting just over 23 percent from the floor. Bethel held Carleton to just 20 points in the first half and took a 24-20 lead into halftime.
The Royals found a way to get things done again in the second half despite shooting only 29 percent from the floor. Tonight's game was again decided at the free throw line for the Royals as they amassed 30 attempts and 22 points from the charity stripe in tonight's win.
Kristi Nye also had a strong half for the Royals as she scored 11 of her team high 13 points in the frame.
With tonight's win the Royals improve to 5-9 overall and 4-7 in MIAC play while the Knights fall to 4-10 overall and 3-8 in MIAC play. The Royals, winners of three of their last four games take to the road this Wednesday for a 7:30 p.m. date with the College of Saint Benedict Blazers.
