David Swenson (Jr., Ham Lake, Minn.) scored both goals for Bethel tonight, and
Nick Kantor (Sr., Buffalo, Minn.) earned his fifth career shutout as the Royals won their season opener over the hosting Crown Storm 2-0.
Swenson put Bethel on the scoreboard early in the first half by netting his first goal of the season and the third of his career at the 7:34 mark of the game, assisted by
David Kim (So., Vancouver, B.C.). He then went on to give Bethel an insurance goal with just under 22 minutes remaining with the help of co-captain
Matt VanBenschoten (Sr., Minnetonka, Minn.).
Crown mustered eight shots, but only three on goal, compared to 28 shots by Bethel and 10 on goal. Kantor made saves on each of the shots he faced, keeping the shutout in tact.
The Royals are now 1-0, while the Storm fall to 0-1 after the first game of the season. Bethel returns to action by coming home to face UW-Superior at the Ona Orth Athletic Complex at 6 p.m. on Friday, September 4.
