ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - One shot on goal. One. That's what the Royals got today against the Augsburg Auggies. But at the end of the game, it was the only one they needed.
David Kim's (Fr., Blaine, Minn.) first collegiate goal with less than 1:15 remaining in the first half proved to be the game-winner, with assists going to
Michael Voigtlander (Jr., Vadnais Heights, Minn.) and
Brendan Harper (Jr., Blaine, Minn.).
The Royals labored to keep the ball out of their end against an aggressive Augsburg team all day. However,
Nick Kantor (Sr., Buffalo, Minn.) had the game of his career, recording 17 saves on 17 shots on goal by the Auggies. Augsburg actually scored a goal in the first half, only to have it waived off due to an offsides call. For Kantor, the shutout is his fourth of the season and the team's fifth.
For the record, Bethel did have three shots today, though only one of them was on goal.
Eric Johnson (Sr., Bloomington, Minn.) had a shot go over the net in the first half, while
Andreas Scott (Jr., Cedar, Minn.) sailed the ball wide in the second half. The Royals also had far fewer corner kicks, with the Auggies holding a 14-5 edge in the department.
The win gives Bethel an overall record of 8-4-1 overall and 4-2-1 in the MIAC, while Augsburg drops to 5-6-1 overall and 1-5 in the conference. The Royals will have a day to recuperate before heading to Collegeville, Minn., to take on the Saint John's Johnnies on Friday afternoon, beginning at 4 p.m.
