MOORHEAD, Minn. - Upon returning from Los Angeles, Calif., the Bethel University women's basketball team had been home less than 72 hours before heading back out on the road to take on the Concordia Cobbers. Unfortunately, the Royals received no sympathy from the Cobbers and were handed a 67-58 loss.
Bethel led for a very brief time early in the first half and stayed within two possesions for a majority of the opening 20 minutes. However, it was in the second half that Concordia slowly started to build their lead to keep Bethel's diverse scoring attack at bay.
Kristen Wolters (Jr., St. Cloud, Minn.) was the high scorer for the Royals with 14 points on four-for-nine shooting from the floor, including two three pointers. She was also four-for-six from the free throw line and was just one rebound shy of a double-double. Once again, the Royals got some quality minutes from
Autumn Beasley (Fr., Medina, Minn.) who came in off the bench to score 13 points and grab three steals.
Taylor Sheley (Fr., Backus, Minn.), making her first start at point guard, accounted for 12 of Bethel's points in the game.
Today's contest also marked the return of All-MIAC Honorable Mention recipient
Kiersten Hansen (Jr., Eden Prairie, Minn.) who had been studying abroad for the first semester of the school year. Hansen had seven points, three rebounds, and a steal in the game.
The Cobbers had four players with double digit point figures, led by Annamaria Matetich who had 14 points off the bench on seven-for-nine shooting.
Today's loss sets Bethel back to 3-5 overall and 2-3 in the conference, while Concordia improves to 5-3 overall and 4-1 in the MIAC. The Royals are slated to play their first home game in nearly a month next Monday beginning at 7:30 p.m. against the Hamline Pipers for their next game.
