Jelen ran well in the 800 meter run in preparation for the national championships by earning an NCAA provisional time of 2:13.76, which was good for a fifth place finish. She finished second only to teammate Marie Borner in the 1500 meter run at the conference meet, earning an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 4:32.04.
