The 1999 squad made history capturing the program's first-ever MIAC regular season title with a 9-2 conference mark and earning a trip to the NCAA Tournament. That year saw the Royals single-season leaders in Carrie Ritland with 659 kills, an average of 4.64, and Julie Feltmann with 1,470 assist, an average of 10.81 a set. Ritland was named the MIAC Player of the Year while head coach Andrew Palileo was named Coach of the Year. The Royals claimed the title with a five-set victory over St. Thomas in what was then the MIAC Tournament prior to the current MIAC Playoff format. 

The Royals 13.51 kills per set stands as a program single-season record prior to the rally scoring era.The nine wins was the most in the MIAC since 1985.

A three-set victory over Augsburg gave BU a share of the regular season title with St. Olaf at a 10-1 MIAC mark. Earning the No. 1 seed with having the head-to-head tiebreaker they moved into the championship match with a 3-1 victory over No. 4 seeded Saint Mary's. Then ranked 18th nationally, BU captured its first MIAC Playoff championship with a four-set victory over St. Olaf (24-30, 30-25, 30-28, 30-27) in front of a crowd of 750 fans inside the Robertson Center. 

In her first season as head coach with the Royals, Gretchen Hunt was named MIAC Coach of the Year while Katie Larsen was named MIAC Player of the Year. The marks of 2.64 services aces per set and 2.91 blocks per set hold as single-season records during the rally scoring era. The conference record of 10-1 still stands as the best mark in program history.

It came down to the final regular season match where BU outlasted Hamline in five sets (25-19, 25-22, 21-25, 21-25, 16-14) earning a share of the MIAC regular season title. The 10-1 MIAC mark matched the program's best from 2001 as BU landed the No. 2 seed in the MIAC Playoffs. After falling to Gustavus Adolphus 3-0 in the regular season, the Royals won their final eight conference matches. 

Bethel boasted three All-MIAC players in Hannah Wilhite, Kirstin Cotter, and Allie Fauth
