Late Goals Help Royals Rally for 2-2 Draw at St. Scholastica

DULUTH, Minn. – The Bethel University women's soccer team scored twice in the final 11 minutes Wednesday afternoon, battling back to earn a 2-2 draw against the College of St. Scholastica at Kenny Harkins Field.

St. Scholastica struck early, finding the back of the net in the third minute to take a 1-0 advantage.

Despite the early deficit, Bethel controlled much of the offensive pressure throughout the opening half. The Royals generated seven shots, including five on goal, and earned three corner kicks but entered halftime trailing by one.

Bethel continued to create opportunities after the break, recording 10 second-half shots as it searched for the equalizer.

The breakthrough finally came in the 80th minute. Jessica Oliver scored her third goal of the season off an assist from Hannah Kvant, pulling the Royals even at 1-1 with just over 10 minutes remaining.

St. Scholastica quickly regained the lead when Anna Manion scored in the 83rd minute, but the Royals wasted little time responding.

Just 30 seconds later, Julie Bergan found the back of the net for her first goal of the season, tying the match at 2-2 in the 84th minute.

Bethel held the Saints scoreless over the remaining minutes to secure the conference draw.

The Royals finished with a 17-6 advantage in total shots and put nine attempts on goal compared to three for St. Scholastica. Bethel also held a 5-4 edge in corner kicks, while the Saints' goalkeeper was forced to make seven saves.

The draw moves Bethel to 3-6-2 overall and 2-3-2 in MIAC play.

Up Next: Bethel travels to Hamline University Saturday, Oct. 17, for another MIAC matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
