ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The Bethel University women's soccer team turned in another strong defensive performance Wednesday night, battling St. Catherine University to a 0-0 draw at Ona Orth Athletic Complex.
Coming off a shutout victory at Gustavus on Saturday, the Royals kept their opponent off the scoreboard for the second consecutive match to move to 2-5-1 overall and 1-2-1 in MIAC play.
The two sides played an even opening half, with neither able to break through. Bethel generated four shots in the first 45 minutes and put two on goal while earning five corner kicks.
St. Catherine increased its offensive pressure after halftime, recording 10 second-half shots, but the Bethel defense continued to hold strong. The Royals made two saves after the break and kept the Wildcats scoreless through the final whistle.
Bethel's goalkeeper finished the night with six saves, including four in the opening half, to secure the clean sheet.
The Royals finished with six shots, including two on goal, while St. Catherine recorded 16 shots and put six on target. Despite the difference in shots, Bethel held a 7-5 advantage in corner kicks, including a 5-1 edge in the opening half.
The draw gives Bethel consecutive shutouts after defeating Gustavus 3-0 on the road Saturday and extends the Royals' unbeaten stretch to two matches.
