Royals Rally for 2-1 Win Over St. Scholastica

BLAINE, Minn. – Bethel University's women's hockey team earned a hard-fought 2–1 home victory over St. Scholastica on Saturday afternoon in Saint Paul. The Royals overcame an early deficit, responding with timely offense and strong goaltending to secure the win.

St. Scholastica struck first just 3:55 into the opening period, but Bethel settled in defensively and started to dictate the pace as the game progressed. In the second period, graduate student forward Kallie Tibbetts (Abrahamson) tied the game at one with her finish at 7:44, converting on a play set up by teammates Afton Hulke and an assist from Siri Olson. The scoring burst energized the Royals and shifted momentum in their favor.

The go-ahead goal came in the third period from freshman Rylen Kissell at 12:17. Assisted by Olson and Kristi Baillif, Kissell's strike proved to be the difference as Bethel tightened up defensively in the final frame. The Royals defense blocked numerous attempts and limited high-danger chances in the game's final minutes.

Between the pipes, Ashley Gustafson (Hess) delivered a composed performance, turning aside 15 shots and making key saves when the momentum swayed toward the home team. Bethel's penalty kill was effective as well, handling multiple St. Scholastica power plays without allowing a goal.

Overall, the Royals showed resilience and depth in a competitive game, improving their record as they head deeper into conference play. Next in line, Bethel will play at Augsburg University on Tuesday for the second game in their MIAC series at 7pm.
