Doubleheader Sweep: Bethel Volleyball Tops Lakeland and UW-Stevens Point

Stevens Point, Wis. – September 20, 2025

The Bethel University women's volleyball team turned in a strong showing on Saturday, sweeping a doubleheader with wins over Lakeland University and host Wisconsin-Stevens Point at Berg Gym. The Royals improve to 6-6 on the season and head into MIAC play on a high note.


Match 1: Bethel 3, Lakeland 1

(19-25, 25-11, 25-22, 25-20)

After a slow start in the opening set, Bethel responded with three straight set wins to take down Lakeland.

  • Peyton Howie led all players with 18 kills on .342 hitting.

  • Sara Scherber and Hannah Penke added 12 and 10 kills, respectively.

  • Sophia Rubio dished out 48 assists and helped guide the Royals to a .239 team hitting percentage.

  • Grace Therrien anchored the defense with 21 digs and 3 aces.

  • Bethel limited Lakeland to a .162 hitting percentage and controlled play at the service line and net.


Match 2: Bethel 3, UW-Stevens Point 1

(25-19, 25-17, 17-25, 25-16)

The Royals closed out the day with a four-set victory over host UW-Stevens Point, dominating sets two and four.

  • Sara Scherber posted a team-high 16 kills, followed closely by Howie and Penke, who each tallied 15.

  • Rubio added another 47 assists, while the team recorded a match-high 12 service aces—led by Lauren Hetfeld with four.

  • Defensively, Therrien and Penke each picked up 20 digs, with Olivia Johnson contributing 18.

  • The Royals hit .471 in the fourth set to close out the match and held an overall edge in kills (56-49) and aces (12-3).


Up Next: Bethel opens MIAC play at home next Friday, September 27, against St. Olaf. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in the Robertson Center Gym.
