RESULTS
ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Bethel Royals opened their outdoor season by winning 5 events at the Hamline Invite on a blustery Saturday, April 5th.
Jireh Babalola won the 100m dash convincingly, running a MIAC-leading 12.26 for her season opener. Autumn Maki ran a personal best 12.81 to take 5th place, and Raina Kaping was 6th in 12.85.
Emily Pearson won the pole vault as she cleared 3.05m / 10'0" on her first attempt. Raina Kaping took 3rd place, also cleaning 3.05m / 10'0", while Molly Nelson was 5th with 2.75m / 9'0.25".
Bethel had a 1-2 finish in the triple jump thanks to Ellie Hernes and Jordan Stanislowski. Hermes won the event by jumping 11.33m / 37'2.25", while Stanislowski jumped 10.18m / 33'4.75" for 2nd.
Nora Wilhelm took the top honors in both the shot put and discus. Wilhelm threw 11.97m / 39'3.25" in the shot, and 37.50m / 123'0" in the discus. Wilhelm also placed 5th in the hammer with a throw of 45.29m / 148'7". Anna Speratos was the top Bethel finisher in hammer with her throw of 46.21m / 151'7", placing her 3rd. Freshman Malonna Wilson placed 8th in shot put with her toss of 10.05m / 33'11.75".Â
The Royals had a strong showing in the 400m hurdles, placing 3 athletes in the top-6. Kelsey Sealock led the way, taking 2nd place in 62.50. Hannah Kvant was 4th in a personal best 64.80, and Hannah Bingham took 6th place with 65.07.
Sarah Sellmach and Abbie Swenson gave the Royals top-5 finishes in the 400m dash. Stellmach ran 58.76 for 4th place, while Swenson ran 59.51 to place 5th.
Shalom Sulungaine took 3rd place in the 800m run, finishing in a collegiate best 2:17.75.
Ruby Gernandt placed 7th in the 1500m run with her time of 5:03.19.
Ellie Hernes placed 4th in the 100H with her time of 16.09 seconds, while Hailey Scholten was 8th in 16.57.
The 4x400m relay team of Addie Ellefson, Larissa Minshull, Gernandt, and Sulungaine placed 2nd with a time of 4:19.77.
The Royals will host the Bethel Invitational next week, Saturday, April 12th at Royal Stadium. Throwing will get underway at 9:00 AM, while running events will begin at 9:30 AM.
