Spring Break Recap: March 12

An action-packed day for the Royals was highlighted by the women's tennis team earning a 4-3 win over No. 27th-ranked Grinnell. Baseball got a run-rule victory over La Roche, winning it 16-6 in seven innings. Softball dropped both its contests falling to Manhattanville and Whittier.
 
WOMEN'S TENNIS: #37 Bethel 4, #27 Grinnell 3
Tied at 3-3, it came down to the last match, where Emma Thole won at No. 5 singles after dropping her opening set 3-6. In set two, she trailed 2-5 before storming back to force a tiebreaker, where she won 7-6 (2). She then took the final set 6-3 clinching a big victory for the Royals.
 
Grinnell took the doubles point winning two of the three matches.
 
Michaella Sullivan (No. 2), Julia Baber (No. 4) and Courtney DeWall (Nuest) (No. 6) all took their singles matches in straight sets.
 
BASEBALL: Bethel 16, La Roche 3 (7 inns.)
The Royals scored them early and often with a six spot in the second and third.
 
Isaac Call was a single short of the cycle as he went 3-for-5 with four RBIs. He had a RBI double in the second, a three-run homer in the third and a triple to center in the fifth.
 
Oran Hinkle also provided a three-run homer in the second.
 
SOFTBALL: Manhattanville 11, Bethel 3 (6 inns.)
Defensive miscues in the first put the Royals down 3-0 after the opening frame.
 
Bethel got two runs back on a two-RBI single from Camryn Thurow in the third. But the Valiants got one of those back in the bottom half of the frame.
 
Ellie Baker's RBI ground out in the fourth put the Royals within 4-3 before Manhattanville put up seven runs in the sixth.
 
SOFTBALL: Whittier 6, Bethel 3
The Poets put up two runs in the second and then scratched four across in the fourth taking a 6-0 lead.
 
Bethel fought back in its final at-bat with Julia Helget leading off the frame with a double. She would score three batters later as Autumn Earney reached on an error. Brianna Tix then singled up the middle scoring BU's final two runs.
