ARDEN HILLS, Minn. — Despite three Royals tallying double digit points, the No. 25-th ranked Bethel University women's basketball team dropped its first conference game of the year to the No. 8 ranked Gustavus Adolphus, 73-61.
Ely Schmitz went 6-for-11 from the field putting up a season-high 22 points in the loss.
Anna Garfield dropped 16 points and
Macey Littlefield put up 12 points in the loss.
The Gusties jumped out to a quick 9-0 lead 6:07 into the first quarter. Littlefield put an end to the Gusties run, knocking down a jump shot from the paint to get the Royals on the board. The Royals faced a 16-6 deficit at the end of the first quarter.
Littlefield hit from three making it a six point game with 3:17 to play in the first half before the Gusties took a 36-23 lead into halftime.
The Gusties held a 48-28 advantage four minutes into the third quarter.
With less than a minute to play in the third, Schmitz hit from three to make it a 59-45 game at the end of three.
With 5:47 to play, Littlefield brought the Royals back to within 10 after knocking down a three. BU couldn't overcome the early deficit thought.
