Women’s Hockey Takes Down Oles in Opener, 4-2

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Bethel University women's hockey took a 4-2 victory over playoff-hopeful St. Olaf in the first game of the series Friday evening. The win boosts the Royals' record to 6-11-0 in the MIAC and 11-12-1 overall as they head into their final game of the season tomorrow.

How It Happened:
• Despite the Oles outshooting them 13-9 in the first period, the Royals earned a dominant 2-0 lead in the first twenty minutes. Brynn Swenson opened up the scoring for the Royals at 11:55, lobbing the puck into the back of the Oles' net off of a pass from Emily Wiltse.
Trinity Jackson followed with a goal of her own just two minutes later, receiving the puck from Bethany Velasco and ricocheting it in off the left post at 13:50.
• The Royals built on their lead in the second period as the Oles continued to struggle to capitalize on their offensive opportunities. Abbie DeLong added the third Royal goal at 4:57, knocking in the rebound off of a Bethany-Velasco shot.
• It wasn't until the eleventh minute of the third period that the Oles coughed up a response, converting one of their 19 shots that period into a power-play goal.
Siri Olson returned the Royals to their three-goal lead at 17:34, notching an empty-netter goal. Just thirty seconds later, the Oles managed to add a second goal to their total, but the Royals' dominant lead from early in the game secured their victory.

What's Next:
The Royals face off against the Oles again tomorrow night on their home ice at the Blaine Super Rink for their final game of the season. Puck drop is set for 6 p.m.
