MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Bethel women's hockey team received a crushing 5-1 loss at the hands of the Concordia College Cobbers Friday evening.
The loss drops the Royals to 10-11-1 overall and 5-10-0 in the MIAC, where they sit eight points back of a potential final playoff spot. It sets up a must-win situation for the Royals, who need at least two points from tomorrow's matchup to keep their playoff hopes alive.
How It Happened:
• The Cobbers jumped out to an early 2-0 goal lead in the first period, scoring at 13:36 and again at 18:40. Nearly twenty minutes of play passed before the Royals mustered a response.
• The Royals' lone goal of the game came from
Beth Velasco on a power-play opportunity in the middle of the second period. She deflected a shot from
Evie Sellner into the Cobber goaltender's pads, then knocked in her own rebound for a goal at 12:20.
• In the last thirty seconds of the second period, the Cobbers not only responded but bit back with two additional goals, widening the gap to 4-1 heading into the second intermission.
• The Royals battled to decrease the deficit during the last twenty minutes, but the Cobbers' four goals proved to be too difficult to overcome. They tagged on a fifth and final goal at 19:02 on the power play to seal the final score, 5-1.
