ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Bethel University men's soccer team wrapped up the regular season on Thursday evening, falling 5–1 to Macalester College in St. Paul. Despite the defeat, the Royals conclude the regular season with a strong 10–5–3 overall record and 5–4–1 in MIAC play, securing a berth in the MIAC Playoffs for the second straight year.
Macalester found its rhythm early, striking twice in the first half and three more times after the break to build a 5–0 lead by the 79th minute. The Royals continued to press, and their persistence paid off late when Roy Kyle buried his third goal of the season in the 86th minute to put Bethel on the board.
Offensively, Bethel tallied 10 total shots, with Kyle, Jordan Ross, and Nathan Hunt each recording multiple attempts. Ross and Dylan Magistad were active in the attack, while midfielders Jack Gerber and Edin Nguyen provided steady play through the center.
In goal, Griffin Blokker went the full 90 minutes, recording four saves under constant pressure as the Royals faced a 22-shot effort from the Scots.
Defenders Ryan Swanda, Silas Ihde, and David Erickson anchored the back line, while Carter Sheard and Isaac Swenson contributed to the offensive build-up in the final third.
With the regular season in the books, Bethel now shifts its attention to postseason play. The Royals will open the MIAC Playoffs on Monday at 2 p.m., traveling to face top-seeded Gustavus Adolphus in St. Peter, Minnesota.
