MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — The Bethel University volleyball team extended its winning ways on Wednesday night, earning a 3–0 sweep over Augsburg University (25–12, 25–23, 28–26) inside Si Melby Hall. The Royals' balanced attack and late-set composure lifted them to 13–8 overall and 6–2 in MIAC play, keeping pace in the conference standings as postseason play approaches.
Bethel opened the night on fire, hitting .320 in the first set while holding Augsburg to a .000 efficiency. Behind sharp serving from Grace Therrien and a steady offensive rhythm, the Royals built an early lead and never looked back, taking the opener 25–12.
The second set proved far more competitive, as Augsburg found its rhythm offensively. But timely kills from Peyton Howie and Hannah Penke, along with Therrien's service pressure, helped Bethel close out the frame 25–23.
In the third, the Royals had to dig deep. Trailing late, Bethel rallied behind strong defense from Hannah Penke (18 digs) and Grace Therrien (17 digs), eventually pulling out a 28–26 win to complete the sweep.
Howie and Penke led the offense with nine kills apiece, while Sara Scherber added eight kills and a pair of blocks. Sophia Rubio once again anchored the attack with 29 assists, helping Bethel hit .231 as a team. Therrien was a difference-maker at the service line, finishing with four aces, while the Royals out-blocked Augsburg 6–5 and edged the Auggies 60–61 in digs.
The victory marks Bethel's third straight win and underscores the team's late-season momentum.
The Royals return to action Saturday night at 7 p.m. when they travel to Saint Mary's University in Winona.
